New Lubbock resident Priscilla Maldonado is only five days old, weighs less than six pounds, needs constant medical care, and shouldn't go out, according to this article in the Chronicle. Her mother, Erica Ysasaga, thought the baby was in good hands when she trusted a woman she'd met at the hospital during the birth, who wore scrubs and identified herself as a nurse. After the birth, the woman visited Ysasaga at home and helped her with small tasks, offering to donate a swing and some clothes to the baby and to put her in a baby pageant with cash prizes. Mother and nurse set off to show the baby off to some neighbors, and Ysasaga was briefly distracted by her two year old son. When she turned around, the woman was gone, and so was Priscilla.
An Amber Alert has been issued for Priscilla Maldonado, who was last seen wearing a diaper and socks and wrapped in a blue receiving blanket. Police are also interested in a red, four-door Pontiac and a white van, both seen leaving the area soon after the baby and the suspect (described here as between 30 and 40 years old, 5'3"-5"6, weighing 140-150, and wearing a yellow-flowered dress) disappeared. The crime is being treated as premeditated, according to Lubbock Police Lieutenant Roy Bassett.
