Texans coach Gary Kubiak will soon have a familiar face pacing the sidelines when Broncos Assistant GM Rick Smith is introduced as new general manager. Smith has reportedly come to an agreement with owner Bob McNair over the weekend and a formal announcement is expected later today.
Smith has spent the last ten years with Denver, serving the last six as director of pro personnel. Despite rumors that he will have less control than former GM Charley Casserly, Smith will have high expectations due to his close relationship with Kubiak and reputation for finding quality free agents.
Smith, one of three candidates interviewed by owner Bob McNair, was the only candidate brought in for a second round. Smith is just 36 years old and will become the second General Manager for the Texans.
