Teen killed in Montrose gang fight

060706_murder.jpgA teenage boy was beaten and stabbed to death yesterday afternoon at a Montrose-area park in what police say was a gang turf war. It happened at about 2:40 p.m. at Ervan Chew Park at Dunlavy and Norfolk, where a group of teens were playing basketball. More than a dozen other teens showed up and attacked the first group with baseball bats, tire irons, bricks and golf clubs. The two groups were rival gangs, police said.

The 14-year-old victim was beaten over the head with a baseball bat and stabbed in the chest, KTRK reports. A 16-year-old blond girl is the prime suspect in the murder, police said. There were several witnesses to the attack, including a lifeguard at a nearby public pool (and, we would imagine, passers-by — that stretch of Dunlavy is usually fairly busy). The victim's identity hasn't been released, and police are still investigating the between 25 and 30 people believed to have been involved in the attack.

BlogHouston said that it was an MS-13'er that's taking the dirt nap.

I'm looking at this as just our own version of Hamas vs. Fateh. Stay out of it, the Red-on-Red actions will thin out and weaken the gangs, and HPD can mop up the rest.

This is right by where we go freeway blogging and that place was a ZOO yesterday. What a sad, sad situation.

KHOU is reporting the name of the victim: Gabriel Granillo, age 15. Apparently several of the kids were wearing lamar high school shirts.

I was really surprised by this story. I thought the most violent thing that went on at Chew Park was Little League.

The thing about gangs is that they retalliate. There might be a gang war soon.

achang: Red on Red. No real loss.
