TSU regents vote 8-0 to can Slade

060706_slade2.jpgIn a fully expected move, the TSU Board of Regents voted unanimously to make President Priscilla Slade's firing official this morning in an appeal hearing Slade requested but didn't attend, as we discussed earlier.

Slade is accused of nearly $1 million in unauthorized spending during her seven years as TSU president, including $650,000 on personal expenditures. The accusation was supported by an internal audit and an external investigation conducted by a private law firm. A Harris County grand jury is now looking at evidence in the case to determine whether Slade should be charged with a crime; as we said earlier, legal experts believe she skipped out on her hearing this morning because anything she said could be used against her in the legal investigation. (According to KPRC, she didn't send anyone in her place either.)

Slade's lawsuit against the university, accusing the regents of breaking her contract by not providing her with an appropriate public hearing before they decided to fire her — yep, go figure — still stands.
