Another restaurant chain for you

You may have seen the chain restaurant Houlihan’s on a trip to the Midwest or Northeast. The restaurant/bar chain has remained very popular in that region, along with Florida and California. The chain has now announced a return to the Texas market, beginning in Austin, with plans to build a dozen restaurants around Houston and several in Dallas/Fort Worth.

061306-chotchkies.jpgAt first glance, Houlihan’s exterior looks like your typical TGI Friday’s or Bennigan’s. Do we really need more of the same here? Well, the company is trying to revamp their image by offering more exotic casual dishes (goat cheese bruschetta, pan-seared tilapia and mustard encrusted salmon) and playing “hip, indie” music, instead of the Goo Goo Doll-ish sounds you usually here at chain restaurants. Their playlist on their website does include John Vanderslice, Spoon, and other independent artists, along with some good ole stand-bys (U2, Beck, Missy Elliott). The first local Houlihan's should be open soon at The Shops at Sage Road, 2800 Sage, so you can check it out for yourself.

It’ll be a wait-and-see game on Houlihan’s success in our market. With the popularity of locally owned restaurants, along with the deluge of chains currently in operation, it won’t be an easy task.

The chain has now announced a return to the Texas market, beginning early next year in Austin, with plans to build a dozen restaurants soon thereafter around Houston.

This is SO confusing.

If the chain is returning to Texas via Austin next year, then how can the first Houlihan's in Houston be opening soon?

You might want to clarify this.

Thanks for the catch, Kevin. I hope we clarified this ultra-confusing situation before anyone did anything rash.
