Houstonist Flickr Group Photo Of The Day - willysstatuequad

willysstatuequad

The shot from flickr user and houstonist photo contributor johnron1.

This photo isn't anything that's particularly special, but points hace to be given for the exceptionally detailed description:

"(2006) recent photo of Willy's statue on the quad at Rice, facing Fondren Library. 'Willy' is, of course, 'William Marsh Rice', founder of the Rice Institute, which later became Rice University. Clearly pictured is Rayzor Hall, home of my former graduate department, the Department of German and Slavic Studies. I divided my time between here, Fondren Library, my room at the Grad House, and Willy's Pub and Valhalla. And sometimes the Gingerman or some cafe in the Rice Village, just beyond the hedges. I loved my 3 years at Rice...would've stayed on to get my PhD if I just didn't get so damn burned out by the end... "
