Police shut down illegal gambling

So all wasn't as it seemed at a dollar store in the 11800 block of Bissonnet today, apparently: Police siezed 39 illegal gambling machines from the store this morning. First sign that something weird might have been going on: The dollar store was called "Pleasure Island II."

HPD sent an undercover officer to the Island after receiving a complaint. The officer played the eight-liner slot machines — which were purportedly there for entertainment purposes only — and figured out something was up when the machines paid him out. That undercover move led to a search warrant, which led to the second sign that something weird was going on: When police showed up to execute the warrant, "employees liftted the tape over a peephole" and saw the cops. A dollar store with a peephole? Naturally.

Police arrested one of the employees.
