We hardly even noticed Tuesday evening's storm here at Houstonist world headquarters, but it apparently got pretty bad in other parts of town. Proof: High winds overturned an 18-wheeler headed into town on the Gulf Freeway.
Mike Canfield, a trucker out of Tulsa, had unloaded his truck in Galveston and was driving back toward Houston when a gust of wind blew his empty trailer over onto a woman's car. Fortunately, the woman escaped with minor injuries. Canfield said the whole thing was a surprise to him: “It was so hard, so quick there was nothing nobody could do. Just wham, bam, it was there. It just blew me over," he told KHOU. "Boy, thank God, that woman’s lucky right there. That’s the first thing run through my mind is if anybody’s underneath me."
The same group of storms that tumped Canfield's truck over caused wind damage and power outages in several areas, particularly Atascocita, where trees were knocked down and roofs were torn off a few homes. According to KPRC, today and Thursday should be hot and dry, but the storms could return over the weekend.
