Hello again, Houstonians! Fun abounds this week, so check out all these exciting events.
Friday, June 16
94.5 The Buzz's preparty for Buzzfest XVII should be lots of fun (see if you can spot Houstonist Karah Leigh!) You'll have chances to win tickets, and band 10 Years will be performing. It'll run 7-midnight at Scout Bar (18307 Egret Bay Blvd. in Clear Lake)
Saturday, June 17
There'll be no quiz at "The Lesson Part Won: From Bebop to Hiphop", a party at the Third Ward's historic El Dorado Ballroom. The lesson, apparently, is through the music they'll be playing, and the point is to educate Houstonians about the ballroom's past and present. A hip-hop influenced video presentation that also brings in other forms of art and various local art collectors will be on hand, and it should be an eclectic group of adults. 10 p.m. at the El Dorado Ballroom (2310 Elgin). $5.
Sunday, June 18
Celebrate Father's Day with ... erm ... an offer you can't refuse? Alamo Draft House (in the West Oaks Mall) is showing The Godfather at 3:30 pm and they're promising spaghetti and wine. Just when you thought you were out, they pull you back in ... ($4 plus food)
Monday, June 19
11:30 am -1:30 pm The Whole Foods Wilcrest (11145 Westheimer) will host one of what we're sure will be many Juneteenth celebration events, with music, games for kids along with free stickers and coloring books, and lots of booths for the purchase of food and such. Admission and all activities are free.
Tuesday, June 20
Chill out with Pink Floyd's classic "Dark Side of the Moon", combined with a laser light show. The planetarium's been doing this for awhile but doesn't publicize it, but pretty lights and music in the dark? What more could you ask for in a date? 8 pm. also showing other days). Houston Museum of Natural Science (One Hermann Circle Drive) Tickets $6 for adults, less for students, seniors, and members.
Wednesday, June 21
On a serious note, go see "Smallest Witnesses: The Crisis in Darfur through Children's Eyes" at The Holocaust Museum Houston (5401 Caroline). Human Rights Watch gave children in Darfur crayons and paper and this is the result. The haunting images, full of both hope and despair, will be around through June 28th, and the exhibit is free. (Though, come on. Make a donation.)
Thursday, June 22
He's coming home, guys. Roger is scheduled to return today vs. the Minnesota Twins. Tickets start at $7, but get 'em now — it'll sell out!
