We wonder: Does anyone actually try to use the Katy Freeway/West Loop interchange on the weekend anymore? Every weekend, lanes and ramps are closed there and we can only guess what kind of traffic backups it creates — we'd think people would get the idea and avoid the area altogether. But we guess Ikea's siren song is strong. At any rate, here are this weekend's Katy closures:
- The ramps from the Katy east- and westbound to the West Loop southbound are closed until 5 a.m. Sunday. Detours: From either direction on the Katy, exit 610 northbound, then exit 18th Street and U-turn.
- The ramp from the West Loop southbound to the Katy eastbound will also be closed until 5 a.m. tomorrow. Detour: Exit Old Katy Road, hang a left and use Washington Avenue to get to the Katy eastbound.
- Also, the ramps from the West Loop northbound to both the east- and westbound Katy will be closed until 5 a.m. Sunday. Detours: To go west on the Katy, exit 18th Street and U-turn to 610 southbound, then exit to the Katy westbound. To go east, exit 18th and U-turn to Old Katy Road, then turn left and continue to Washington to the eastbound Katy.
