The news yesterday about Houston home prices stirred one of Houstonist's hidden pastimes: fantasizing about houses we can't afford. It's called shelterporn, and we're addicted. So we said to ourselves, we said, "To hell with that $204,005 average house price — let's see what we could get for some real money." Imaginary real money, of course, but still.
So supposing we had an extra $2 million lying around, we could be living in this contemporary home on the edge of Memorial Park, designed by MC2. Outside, the house is a stunning collection of lines and angles; inside, there's a spectacular two-story living room, huge windows and a third-story master suite overlooking the park with a bathroom that looks bigger than our apartment. Outside, there's an 1,800-square-foot deck with a lap pool and a circular pool, and on the roof, another deck with an outdoor kitchen. And then there's the garage, which was custom-built for race cars: It holds eight cars, has a 14-foot ceiling and includes a mechanic's shop. And it's air-conditioned, of course. Bedrooms: four. Bathrooms: three full and three half. Square feet: 5,300.
Only problem is, our cinder-block-and-plank bookshelves and milk-crate couch might not look so hot. We guess we'd just have to call it "minimalism."
