PETA vs. Beyonce

061906_beyonce.jpgOne of Houston’s biggest celebrities, Beyonce Knowles, had a run-in with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) last week. According to ABC 13, the winning bid on an e-Bay auction for a dinner (benefitting VH1’s Save the Music Foundation) with the pop star was placed by the animal rights group.

The dinner was at chic New York restaurant Nobu 57, and that’s where the PETA members confronted Beyonce about wearing fur and using it in the clothing line House of Dereon. They waited until after their orders had been placed, then started firing questions, and even broke out a portable DVD player with footage of minks being killed for fur. The PETA members are said to never have raised their voices, but that didn’t keep them from being escorted out of the restaurant. Beyonce, along with her mom and sister, stayed.

Beyonce’s spokesperson said that she has no comment on the incident.

PETA, known for its untraditional methods of raising awareness about animal rights, said it had previously attempted to reach Knowles through faxes, letters and rallies outside her concerts.

And because this sounds like something we would have liked to have seen, we dug up a video of the incident.
