A collision beween a train and an 18-wheeler in southeast Houston last night left crews cleaning up for hours. It happened at about 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Griggs, Mykawa and Long Drive. Police say the truck driver ignored the crossing signals and tried to make it across the tracks before the train came; needless to say, he didn't make it. The train ended up hitting the back of the trailer, and KPRC reports that the trailer was broken off the truck's rig and flipped over. That's pretty clear in KHOU's raw footage of the scene. According to reports, the train crossing doesn't have arms.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, though the truck driver was taken to the hospital. There was quite a clean-up, though: The truck was full of mineral oil, which had to be drained before the wreck could be cleared. We're sure those train tracks are extra greasy today.
