FEMA gives area $14.5M in hurricane grants

032006_fema.jpgA day after FEMA rejected the city of Houson's request for $2.7 million to pay for debris pick-up from Hurricane Rita, he agency said yesterday it will give the Houston area $14.5 million in hurricane-related grants.

The money includes $6 million to the Harris County Flood Control District to demolish about 80 structures in a 100-year floodplain and $6.6 million to the city for utility costs racked up by 34,000 hurricane evacuees between Sept. 1 and April 30. Also included: $1.87 million to the city of Pasadena to demolish 20 structureds in a subdivision that FEMA said has been flooded (and residents reimbursed from Washington) 20 times. Enough is enough, we guess.
