Miss Houston wins Miss Texas

062606_ellis.jpg 19-year-old incoming UH freshman Magen Ellis won the 2007 Miss Texas USA crown on Sunday night in Laredo continuing her winning tradition and Houston's. For the second year in a row Miss Houston has been crowned Miss Texas, with 2006 winner Lauren Lanning crowning fellow Houstonian Magen Ellis, while Ellis herself also won the 2004 Miss Texas Teen USA.

Ellis has been competing in pagents since she was 15 and has always dreamed of competing in Miss USA. Hoping her hard work will pay off again she says she will continue her training regimen that helped her to win Miss Texas. Beating out 131 other contestants in three categories — interviews, swimsuits and evening gowns — Ellis now claims another title and one sweet $100,000 prize package, including a new Ford Mustang, an apartment in Houston, a one-year wardrobe allowance, free salon hair care during her reign, a fur coat for those chilly Houston nights, and what every girl dreams of: an $8,000 diamond ring in the shape of the Miss Texas Crown. With a win in Miss USA Ellis will be eligible to compete in the Donald Trump run Miss Universe pagent and both of those pagents offer up some serious booty to their winners — The crown in Miss USA alone is valued at $200,000, and Miss Universe offers up a crown worth $250,000.

Congratulations, Magen. We'll be rooting for you at Miss USA!
