Tuesday
Will T. Massey sings from the heart. He’s exactly what you would expect from a singer/songwriter from San Angelo – a good folk storyteller.
8 p.m. at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck | info

Wednesday
Experimental is probably the best word to use when describing the Legendary Pink Dots. They’ve been around over a quarter of a century now, and have been likened to Pink Floyd, but if you listen to some of their 80’s work, Laurie Anderson comes to mind instead.
8 p.m. at Warehouse Live | tickets and info

Thursday

Their My Space profile categorizes them as “hip hop/indie/country;” not a combination you hear too often. Astronautalis is the rapper behind (or in front) of the alternative band from Florida.
8 p.m. at Super Happy Fun Land | info

Friday
There are 80 bands playing at this year’s Vans Warped Tour. It’s an alternative music-lover’s wet dream. Some veterans among the newer bands include Helmet, Less Than Jake, NOFX, Motion City Soundtrack, Rise Against, Saves the Day, and The Academy Is…
Noon at Reliant Park | tickets and info

Note to you single guys: Tristan Prettyman has broken up with Jason Mraz. Since Walter’s is a small venue, maybe you can push your way up to the front and woo the talented (and, can we say, cute) singer/songwriter.
8 p.m. at Walter’s on Washington | tickets and info

Saturday
Today kicks off the Essence Music Festival. Not only will it feature the reunion of Bobby Brown with New Edition, but the three day extravaganza also includes Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, and the recently added Sugarhill Gang (everybody say ‘motel, hotel, Holiday Inn!’)
Saturday – Monday, 6 p.m. at Reliant Park | tickets and info

Sunday
The Black Crowes made some good rock and roll in the early years, but we think Chris Robinson is a little preoccupied these days. However, we recommend this show for its two openers: Drive-By Truckers and Robert Randolph. The Truckers just released their best album to-date, and Randolph is one of the most energizing live acts around these days.
7 p.m. at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion | tickets and info
