That's right - believe it or not there is actually a lot of surfing to be had off Texas' coastal waters.
Tonight is your chance to see the slick moves of how three Texas women ride the curl off the Mexican coast. Tex2Mex is a film by Rindy Jones who has been traveling in and surfing Mexico for over the past decade. While at Surfside one day after a chance meeting with local Houston surfer Molly Ware, Rindy was inspired to share her surfing in Mexico as well as the talent of local Texas women, or "chix" as she calls them, surfers. On the advice of Molly, Rindy got in touch with the Dodson sisters, Danielle and Nicole, from Corpus Christi to be a part of Rindy's vision - highlighting Texas born female surf talent on a journey of surfing and friendship. After a year of planning and help from family and friends it was time for Rindy's vision to become a reality. The group set off on December 18th to drive to pick up the Dodson's and then on to the Mexican coast.
The 45 minute film showcases the three chix's talent and why female surfers, even Texans, deserve a place of their own in the surf world today. Rindy hopes the film will inspire others to "get off the beach, grab a board, and get in the water." The film debuts tonight at 8 p.m. at Rice Media Center and Houstonist also happens to think that female surfers rock too; so we will be there in our best flip flops with no sunscreen required for this surf trip.
