Nelson buys Church

nelsonchurch_070606.jpg Believe it or not, Willie Nelson used to go to church — in fact, he cites church as where he honed his musical skills as a young boy. But did you know he loved his church so much that when it came up for sale in May and Willie got a call from childhood friend Donald Reed, Nelson decided to buy the church building and preserve it forever? Well, now you do. The Abbott Methodist Church in Nelson's hometown has a congregation dating back to the mid-1800s and a building that opened in 1899. Willie put up the cash to buy and preserve the building; the congregation had already merged with another in Hillsboro. Viva la Abbott!

We always knew Willie loved agriculture, but we never knew he appreciated the church so much, too.
