Texans' Williams buys Slade's former digs

070606_marioslade.jpgSo a couple of weeks ago, when we heard that ex-TSU President Priscilla Slade's Memorial Park-area manse had been sold, there was one thought foremost in our mind: "God, we hope someone famous bought it." And we're not disappointed: The new owner of 203 Terrace Drive is none other than Mario Williams, the Texans' controversial No. 1 draft pick.

Williams bought the 6,000-square-foot house for $1.5 million, short of Slade's asking price of $1.8 million. Part of the sale, the Chronicle reports, was an outstanding $56,000 bill for the home's security system, one of the things Slade bought for the house using university money — a spending habit that led to her firing. Slade, you'll recall, spent nearly $1 million of TSU's money on unauthorized purchases during her nearly seven years as president. The TSU regents have talked about asking her to reimburse the money from her profit on the sale of the house, but nothing official has been done toward that.

The two-story house features four bedrooms, high ceilings, a media room, travertine floors and a pool and spa in the back yard. And Williams can definitely afford it: The Texans signed him to a six-year, $54 million contract with $26.5 million guaranteed in the first two years. Heck, he could probably even afford one of Slade's $17,000 beds.
