So we're coming to this late, but it's still worth a mention: If you know of a locally produced food product that you think everyone else should get exposed to, tell Whole Foods Market and you could end up with an extra $100. It's part of WFM's Go Local program, which was announced last month, and here's how it works: If you find a local product Whole Foods doesn't carry, e-mail go.local@wholefoods.com with the poduct name, brand name and a brief description (of the item, not of yourself). If WFM puts the product on its shelves, you'll get a $100 store gift card. That'll buy a lot of organic peanut butter.
The Go Local idea is part of WFM's push to support local agriculture and producers. Also coming up are parking-lot farmer's markets at the chain's freestanding stores, loans for local, small-scale agricultural concerns and farms in developing countries, and education programs to let shoppers know about locally produced products.
