Tuesday
People say that rock is dead. Well, at least pop/rock with jangly guitars is still alive. That’s what you’ll get tonight. Not original, but it’s at least listenable. A triple-bill with Big City Rock, October Fall, and NeedToBreathe.
Music: "Do You Know What You Want"

Wednesday
Houston’s Antarctica Is Here ends one of their MySpace entries with “we love each of your dark souls.” The possess some of those moody, gothic sounds, and lead vocalist Jenna reminds us of a cross between Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) and Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins).
9 p.m. at the Proletariat | info
Thursday
Let the moody spirit flow over to tonight with Elemental Harmonics. The electronica band has a loungy, new age feel to them (and a flashy website). They remind us of the old Windham Hill samplers we used to buy 15 years ago to help us relax.
9 p.m. at the Meridian | tickets and info
Friday
A good night to catch some classic rock. The double-bill at the Woodlands is Steely Dan (is there anyone out there who still doesn’t know where they got their name?) and former Doobie, now ultra-cool Motown hits re-hasher, Michael McDonald.
7:30 p.m. at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion | tickets and info
Hot Tuna may have been a Jefferson Airplane spinoff band, but they now have a place in history for inspiring jam-bands like Phish. Their sound is a little more acoustic these days, but you’ll still hear the old hits.
9 p.m. at Warehouse Live | tickets and info
Saturday
More mainstream alt-rock for you this week. Taking Back Sunday is touring to support their first major-label release Louder Now, and they’re bringing the Blink 182-ish (without the fake-punk gear) Angels & Airwaves with them.
8 p.m. at Verizon Wireless Theater | tickets and info
You’ve probably seen the “God Listens” billboards around town, but you may not know that KSBJ is hailed as the best non-commercial Christian radio station in the country. They’re celebrating their 24th year in Houston with an anniversary concert, featuring many artists including Houston’s own Caedmon’s Call, Brian Litrell (yep, the Backstreet Boy) and headliners Newsboys.
5 p.m. at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | tickets and info
