So here's a tip if you're ever in jail: Don't go crazy and assault police less than a week before you're released. Unfortunately, 29-year-old Harris County inmate Jose Martinez-Alfaro apparently hadn't gotten that advice when he allegedly slashed two deputies Tuesday morning after they wouldn't let him use a telephone.
It happened at about 10:30 a.m. at Harris County's minimum-security jail on Baker Street. Martinez-Alfaro reportedly asked a detention officer if he could use an office phone because the one in the jail was broken. The officer told him that was against policy, and that's when officials say Martinez-Alfaro slashed the officer across the chest with a razor. Two other officers wrestled Martinez-Alfaro to the ground, and he reportedly cut one of them on the ear. The injured officers were taken to the hospital; Martinez-Alfaro was taken to the infirmary, where he was treated and released.
Martinez-Alfaro was scheduled to get out of jail Monday on a charge of evading arrest, but now it looks like he might be spending a little more time there, thanks to three new charges of aggravated assault on a public servant. Oops!
