2 arrested, 2 injured in East Freeway shooting spree

So the East Freeway wasn't the place to be early this morning, thanks to a shooting spree that apparently began with a case of road rage. The shooters were three men in a green pickup truck, the victims were a group of people in a gray Ford Tempo, and a couple of random people got caught up in the mayhem — and beyond that, things aren't too clear.

According to KTRK, the guys in the truck followed and shot at the guys in the Tempo all the way from downtown to the East Freeway near Normandy (KPRC indicates that neither the chase nor the shooting went on that long). Though they never hit the Tempo, they did manage to shoot a nearby 18-wheeler driver in the leg. The truck driver and the Tempo pulled into a gas station; the brother of one of the Tempo passengers showed up and started beating up a random guy who was passing by on the sidewalk. The brother thought the man was one of the shooters, but he turned out to be an unrelated homeless man — and now the homeless man is recovering in the hospital, KHOU reports, and the brother has been charged with assault.

Back to the shooters, though: Police arrived at the gas station, and while they were talking to the guys in the Tempo, the shooters pulled into a nearby gas station. One of them was arrested inside a Jack in the Box at the station, another was caught pumping gas — because hey, it's never a bad time to fill up — and a third suspect fled on foot and hasn't been caught.
