Metro boosts rail security

071306_rail.jpgAfter Tuesday's terrorist commuter train bombings in India and non-terrorist, but still scary subway fire in Chicago, Metro officials took no chances with our little rail system. Yesterday, security was beefed up along the MetroRail line though officials said there had been no immediate threat in Houston.

The increased security includes extra Metro police officers at rail stations and K-9 units and a special operations response team to patrol the rail line. If there's ever a threat against MetroRail, we can't help but wonder how effective security here will be — not that we doubt the ability of the Metro cops, but with unrestricted access to the rail platforms, it seems like it could be easy for someone to run up and wreak some havoc. We hope we never find out.
