Out-of-control car takes out gas pumps

071906_shell.jpgWhen Houstonist goes to pump gas, we have a lot on our minds — how we're going to go broke if gas gets any more expensive, how dirty the water in the window-cleaner bin must really be, whether the station will explode if someone calls us. And now we might have something else to look out for: out-of-control vehicles. It would be on your mind, too, if you happened to be at the Shell station at South Post Oak and Willowbend this morning when a driver lost control and slammed into the gas pumps.

It happened at about 1:30 a.m.; the driver crashed into two pumps and knocked a light pole out of place, according to KPRC. Though the station was open at the time, no one was injured, including the driver. Station owner Danny Dhanani told Channel 2 that all the pumps will stay closed while repairs are made: "It's going to be a major, major problem. It's a gas line underground and we have a gas line leak," he said.

Dhanani estimated the repairs will cost $50,000.
