From KPRC, we have the story of a pair of determined thieves — one of whom carjacked a city employee and fled the crime scene in his truck, and another who was caught with the help of some passersby.
It all started at about 1:30 p.m. yesterday in a parking garage near Woodway and North Post Oak. The two men broke into a car and stole "a large sum of cash," then took off in a minivan. The pair pulled out in front of another van, which swerved and lost control; the crooks hit a wall, jumped out of their minivan and ran across Woodway. One of them pulled a gun on a city public works employee and took his city pickup truck — so we assume he won't be too hard to find. A Harris County deputy constable started chasing the other guy and was quickly joined by some people from a nearby office building, who all helped pin the suspect down and handcuff him. "We got him down, held him down, handcuffed him, and from that point, he was very submissive," Odis Wilcots, who helped arrest the man, told Channel 2. And no wonder: He probably figured trying to get away from several people was a losing battle.
Police recovered some of the stolen money at the scene, and the deputy was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained during the chase. Officials are still looking for the jacked public works truck, which has Texas license plate number 659 387.
