Summer TV: Nightmares and Dreamscapes

nightmaresanddreamscapespic.gifNightmares and Dreamscapes, a miniseries, consisting of eight hour-long episodes, comes to us straight from the mind of Stephen King. All-star casts include William H. Macy, William Hurt, and Jeremy Sisto ("Six Feet Under's" Billy Chenoweth). One future offering stars Claire Forlani, best known for making out with Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black...assuming you stayed awake that long. Forlani plays one half of an American couple honeymooning in London who basically..um...get trapped in what seems to be another dimension? That's the way to add spice to your wedding night--forget what they told you about lingerie.

The first episode, "Battlegroud", aired July 12th with no commercials, and will be repeated later in the summer along with the rest of the series. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, unlike those for TNT's other Steven King efforts, which have been decidedly mixed in past years.

Next week's episode stars Sisto as Willie, a newly-released convict who learns from his dying friend of a map in four parts that reveals the location of a fortune. Naturally, he gos to look for it, also seeking to avenge his friend's death Of course, he only has one part of the map, so he has to track down the other parts, too. This, says TNT, entails "risking his family and his freedom". Even non-fans of horror might be intruiged by the solid production values and engaging storytelling of this effort.

Nightmares and Dreamscapes airs at 8 cental time on Wednesdays on TNT.
