Saturday shelterporn

After the soap-opera excess of last week's shelterporn, it's refreshing to get back to reality with a beautifully restored Craftsman home in Montrose. It's actually a house we've coveted for some time, so we were excited to see it on the market.

Outside, the house is a classic, with lots of windows, broad overhanging eaves and an inviting front porch. Inside, it gets even better: French doors, beamed ceilings and mahogany trim and cabinetry installed by a master craftsman. The dining room is incredible, with high wood wainscoting, a plate rail, a tiled fireplace surround and a custom-built Arts and Crafts-style table and chairs that come with the house (in fact, all the custom furniture and antique rugs are part of the deal). The building is now the office of a CPA firm, but it could easily be a residence — the business looks like it hasn't ruined the character of the house at all. And hey, you'll have six covered parking spaces in back for when you invite your friends over! Bedrooms: four. Bathrooms: one full, one half. Square feet: 2,550. Price: $1,450,000.
