So when we saw this picture, the Star Trek theme immediately started playing in our head (in bad MIDI format, of course). But this isn't a shot from the Starship Enterprise — instead, we're guessing it's an unusually well-lighted and empty section of the downtown tunnel system. If you've ever gotten lost in the tunnels, it won't surprise you to know that there are about seven miles of 'em — but did you know the whole system traces its roots back to 1935, when movie theater owner Will Horwitz decided to connect three of his theaters with a tunnel? (The three theaters were the Iris on Travis and the Texan and Uptown, both on Capitol; the original tunnel, now gone, ran under the present-day Chase Tower.)
