Unlike the fighting story below, this fight almost made it to the courtroom. It seems that boxing promoter Don King doesn’t like it when war veterans gather at the VFW hall and watch a boxing match on pay-per-view without getting the appropriate permits. King’s organization is asking for a $5,000 out of court settlement.
Luckily, two local radio stations came to the rescue. Earlier this week, KTRH’s Chris Baker interviewed VFW manager Donald Breed on the air and surprised him with a personal $1,000 donation to the cause. 93Q alerted their listeners and was able to raise the additional money for the settlement.
Donald Breed was worried that he’d have to dip into his own savings to keep the VFW hall open. His worries are gone now, and Don King now has money to buy next month’s supply of hair spray.
