Beyonce video stirs up controversy

060731_beyoncejayz.jpgWe learned this morning that some local fans are upset with their hometown hero Beyonce’s new video “Déjà vu.” They’ve even started a petition to have her record company re-shoot the video.

The petition organizers have several complaints about the video: its lack of story, erratic dancing, sexual themes, bad editing, and (gasp!) fashion faux pas. The fashion police after Beyonce? We’ve already determined that she’s Houston’s fashion queen.

Watching the video, we didn’t get dizzy or bothered by Beyonce and Jay-Z’s show of affection like the petition states, but we did chuckle some. Her dancing near the end of the video reminded us of Grey's Anatomy's once-geek, now heartthrob Patrick Dempsey’s African anteater dance in Can’t Buy Me Love.

Bottom line: the song is catchy, the video is kind of silly. We don’t think Beyonce has jumped the shark, yet. Judge for yourself and watch the video.
