Could rape suspect be Acres Homes killer?

080706_cuffs.jpgPolice believe a man being held for raping a woman in late May could be the man who has murdered at least six women in the Acres Homes area, the Chronicle reports this morning. Bilford Dwight Junious, 35, was arrested Friday night and charged with aggravated assault; a criminal report says he was toting a shotgun when he sexually assaulted a woman in the 2600 block of Mansfield on May 31. What could link him to the murders is a tattoo of a set of scales on his arm, which matches descriptions of the killer.

Police didn't comment on the arrest Sunday, but the Chron says they "anticipate releasing additional information later today." Fortunately, Quanell X was on hand to clear things right up, saying Junious was a model citizen — except, you know, for the rape. "He has never, ever been in trouble — never been charged with a crime," Quanell X said. "He has never, ever been accused of sexual assault. He's never exhibited or demonstrated any predatory behavior." He added, though, that he can understand why police would think Junious could be the murderer: "He has a shaved head (and) he has a tattoo on his arm that resembles the serial killer's. I can see how someone could call in a tip."

Junious is expected to appear in district court this morning on the rape charge.
