If you've ever thought that the food you've had from Taco Bell tasted a little weird, you might not have been wrong: One La Porte family is suing the chain, claiming they got sick after eating at a Deer Park Taco Bell location. The cause of the illness, apparently, was food that had been contaminated with cleaning solutions.
According to the lawsuit filed by Emily McDuffie, she, her three kids and her mother all became ill after eating at the Taco Bell location on June 15. Their symptoms included uncontrollable vomiting, the loss of their ability to speak coherently, swollen lips, numb tongues and abdominal pain. (Houstonist has experienced many of the same symptoms after eating really good salsa, but there's no danger of running into really good salsa at Taco Bell.) According to McDuffie's lawyers, the manager of the restaurant initially denied there was anything wrong with the food. When she finally did admit it, she wouldn't tell the family what contaminants were in it, the lawsuit claims.
Attorney Joel Androphy said the restaurant waited eight days to disclose what was in the food: Write-Away Graffiti Remover and Kay Sink Sanitizer, both of which were apparently used to clean a bin containing tortilla chips. Which makes us wonder: Why did they use graffiti remover to clean a tortilla chip bin? We guess our graffiti problem is worse than we thought.
Taco Bell's parent company, its restaurant subsidiary and Martinez are named in the suit; the Chronicle didn't report the amount sought.

I've experienced those symptoms from a mexican restaurant once, too. But it was from 6 margaritas, not the food.
How come nobody else has claimed illness from TacoBellitis? Hum-m.
