At first look, you may think he’s trying to be John Mayer, but once listen and you’ll figure out that he’s not. Musically, the Floridian John Ralston writes his pop songs from the gut and sounds a little like Dashboard Confessional and … well, John Mayer. Damn, ok, maybe we were wrong. Really good stuff, though.

Houston’s Scattered Pages are a hard band to define. At times, they use their country twang, other times, they have the indie-pop feel. Either way, they are definitely a band on the rise, as we await their new CD on their new label this fall.

Friday
Summer isn’t complete without a Dave Matthews Band concert. Say what you will, but these guys have been consistently making good music for over 12 years now. You’ll hear both the hits and jams. O.A.R. opens.

Saturday
If you’re through being cool, or want to exorcise the ghost in you (sorry, had to do it), then the 80’s revival of Devo and Psychedelic Furs is for you. For a small bonus, you also get When in Rome, which will probably be the shortest set you’ve ever heard.
8 p.m. at Reliant Arena | tickets and info
Finally, if post-grunge rock is more your style, then you’ll be right at home with Breaking Benjamin. The Pennsylvanian act is touring on support of their just released new CD Phobia.
