The Chronicle ran a report this morning on Google’s semi-new search engine “Google Trends,” which allows you to type in multiple words and phrases and see the Top 10 cities and regions that have googled those terms in the past two years. We think it’s a fun feature, too, so we thought we would share someof our findings.
Since we’re so competitive with other Texas sports franchises, we thought we’d take a look at who’s more popular. While comparing our Astros to the Rangers, it was no surprise to see the Astros with more hits, especially during the playoffs the past two years. It also wasn’t a surprise to see Houston ranked no. 1 on that search, while Fort Worth and Dallas were no’s 5 and 6, respectively. What did surprise us is that the Phillipines have searched for those teams more than the United States. (We also like to note that the Rangers may have an edge on us, because the search may also include a certain TV show.)
We didn’t fare so well when you compared the Texans to the Cowboys, but we expected that. On a different note, Houston googles Anna Nicole Smith more than any other city in the U.S., but India googles her more than us). The Dixie Chicks may have canceled their show, but we are ranked at no. 6 for their searches.
Along with the name searcher, this trend searcher may become another pastime in our cubicles. Wait! That just reminded us of another search!
