If there's one thing Houstonist enjoys, it's checking up on the weather online. We can hardly remember what life was like before the Internet, when you used to have to go outside to see what it was like outside. Barbaric.
So we were surprised this afternoon when we checked out the National Weather Service's forecast for West U. and found that it's calling for a high temperature today of -5. Yes, that's five below. Fahrenheit. (Check it out above; it's right there on the left.) Maybe it's actually happened: It is so hot outside that it's turned cold again. Or the thermometer broke.
In fact, the current temperature is 94 — well above the record low of 65 (set in 1949) and not all that far from the record high, 105 (1980). But still way, way more than -5. Sorry.

I hope we don't get those thunderstorms they're calling for today. At 5 below zero, it'll be a slippery, icy road home from work.
I think somewhere in Upper Kirby on saturday I was driving and saw a temperature readout of -167°.
There's clearly some cold spots in town.
