HPD Partners with FBI For New Gang Initiative

060825_fbi.jpgThe recent spate of gang violence in Houston, much of it related to the violent gang MS-13, has convinced the Houston Police Department and the FBI to take action. The number of gang-related crimes in the first half of 2006 is up more than 5 percent from that number in 2005, reports KHOU, with an increase of over 92 percent in the number of murders. The new initiative will include 10 FBI agents, as well as ATF agents and detectives from several divisions of HPD, all sharing information. Special Agent Ken Ivey, at least, is optimistic:

“In the past, I might not have known you were working a particular subject or that particular matter and now we are all under the same roof sharing information. we got robbery units, we got homicide detectives, we got narcotics folks, we got ATF, we got FBI, we got state local law enforcement. This is going to be a huge success for the Houston area,”
