The shot from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor HomesickTexan.
When this photo showed up in the Houstonist group, we were curious. It's not a bad likeness, but it isn't exactly a complelling image. Or is it? The photographer posed the age-old quesion: Should beans be allowed in a true Texas chili? Here are some musings:
" I used to become all biblical when people admitted they added beans to their chili because I was a firm believer that chili wasn’t true chili if it had beans; it was meat and bean soup. And yes, some places like Wendy’s serve a dish they call chili but it’s just ground beef, tomato and beans in broth. But I’ve realized that most people make their chili with beans, and I’ve had the pleasure of eating their spicy concoctions."

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

Is it dorky to comment on a post about you? I reckon it is, but I just wanted to give a Texas-sized thanks to the Houstonist team for blogging about my bean debate. And as a Houstonian, I'm loving this site. It makes me, well, homesick.
