Work has been a little stressful for us lately; maybe it has for you, too. It might be a good time to start your concert week with some real local talent, jazz pianist Robert Glasper. After graduating college and attending the Houston HSPVA, Glasper is now signed to the prestigious Blue Note records.

Wednesday
Like REM (and maybe KISS, depending on who you ask) Mae derived from an acronym (Multisensory Aesthetic Experience). It’s based on what the band hopes you experience from their music. The alternative-pop band joins the great New Amsterdams (founded by Get Up Kids vocalist Matthew Pryor) on stage tonight.
9 p.m. at Warehouse Live | tickets and info

Thursday
When you think of women in blues-rock, classic Bonnie Raitt may come to mind. Rory Block has been playing almost as long as Riatt, and just as good, but never reached the same plateau.
8 p.m. at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck | info

Friday
In this decade, 311’s most popular songs (“Amber,” cover of “Love Song”) strayed away from their typical reggae/hip-hop/funk/rock formula, but they haven’t lost it. 311 is joined by The Wailers, a band that would have made last weekend’s Reggae Sun Splash much better.
7:30 p.m. at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | tickets and info

Could Conroe be the next Austin, musically? Well, that may be a stretch, but the town has produced a band that has already had some tracks on iTunes national charts. Three Fantastic mixes punk-rock with jazz, among other things, and has already gained a regional following with their live shows.
9 p.m. at Rudyard’s | info

The Cotton Exchange downtown has reopened – but it’s not your father’s Cotton Exchange. To prove it, the classic bar is hosting “Just a Friend” Biz Markie tonight. Get your ears ready for some off-key singing!

Saturday
Speaking of early 90’s rap, Rakim is back. Eric B. isn't with him anymore, but he does bring Kid Capri and V-Zilla along with him.
8 p.m. at Warehouse | tickets and info

If you preferred black cut-off t-shirts instead of huge gold chains back in the day, then you may enjoy the Houston Metal Fest. Pinhed heads this all-day festival, with over two dozen bands featured.
9 a.m. at Meridian | tickets and info

Finally, the Continental provides us with a good dose of consistently good Texas singer/songwriters. Austin Collins and our own Sleeping Rubies and headliner Tody Castillo.
