Boston drivers hate pedestrians. New York is bumper to bumper. Houston? We run red lights. Until now. Red light cameras at ten city intersections will start taking pictures Friday, with plans to install cameras in groups of ten at a time at forty additional dangerous intersections, reports the Chronicle.
The owners of cars caught on camera running a light will be mailed a $75 fine, but don't think this gets you off the hook from regular cops, who can still stop you for running a red light. Revenue generated by the tickets, expected to top 6 million a year ocne the program is fully in place, will be used to pay officers working overtime. (Of which there are a lot because of HPD's manpower shortage).
