River Oaks Update: Weingarten confirms "consideration" for redevelopment

083106_ro.jpgAlmost six weeks after the initial report about ideas for the River Oaks shopping center, the real estate company has released a more specific statement regarding the rumored demolitions. In a letter obtained by the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance, it was stated that:

“Weingarten Realty has a long term commitment to retail shops and restaurants along West Gray and as a result, we are considering the addition of a key retail anchor . . . [W]e are considering the redevelopment on the north side of West Gray in the area now occupied by Jos. A. Banks.”

While there is no firm affirmation of the complete demolition, we believe this is just Weingarten's way of delivering the blows one small punch at a time.

To help, you can still sign the petition, write letters, buy the t-shirt, and print out the picture.
