Cheaper gas down holiday road

060901_gas.jpgAfter you pack the family truckster for your last summer vacation this weekend, you’ll breathe a little sigh of relief when you stop at the gas station. The average price of gasoline in Houston is now $2.65 – a welcome relief from the $3/gallon prices we were seeing just a few weeks ago.

Nationwide, the average is just above $2.80, but with summer ending, you should see gas prices continue to drop – as long as there aren’t any major hiccups in production. Some experts say that prices may eventually drop to the two dollar mark by year’s end. When you adjust the average price of gas by considering inflation over the years, at two dollars per gallon, we’re in pretty good shape.

If $2.65 per gallon isn’t good enough for you, search here for the cheapest gas near you. With the money you save, you just might be able to skip Cousin Eddie’s house and stay in a Motel 6.
