If you're looking for a reason to brave the Katy Freeway this weekend, we might have found one: The Rockettes will be at Memorial City on Saturday. We're feeling more like New York every day!
The high-stepping dance group will be in town to help Macy's celebrate its takeover of our nation's retailers — Saturday is the day Foley's officially stops being Foley's and becomes a part of the Federated conglomerate (along with a bunch of other longtime retailers across the U.S., including Marshall Field's). The festivities begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Foley's Memorial City store, where Mayor Bill White will read a proclamation, a band will — for some reason — play hits of the 1960s and the Rockettes will kick up their well-trained heels. No word on whether Mayor Bill will join in.
Houstonist is still not sure how we feel about Macy's taking away local store identities, but we have to be honest: It's kinda hard to be too upset when we're faced with the promise of readily available Frango mints.
