Northerners must think we’re crazy. Yes, we get excited when the low temperatures drop below 70 for the first time. Luckily, we had it early this year, when it dropped down to 67 degrees on the last day of August. This morning, the official low was 68.
Why do we get excited? Because, it means the days of sweating outside at 10 p.m. are soon coming to an end. Sure, we’ll still sweat through most of September, and it'll continue in October, where we'll get a weekly break of a cool snap for a day or two.
Fall is one of Houstonist’s favorite times of the year. Our jogs at the park are more comfortable. We can actually enjoy events at the Miller Outdoor Theater, dinner on the patio at one of our favorite restaurants, and football games (because of the new rules, you won’t have to sweat at a Texans game when the team wants to overheat our opponents – it didn’t work for us last year, anyway).
So here’s to the end of another sweltering summer, and the beginning of fall weather. We just wished we had changing foliage to watch, too.
(Oh, for those new to Houston, fall, winter, and spring kind of morph into one here, just so you’ll know.)

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

I love the fall for all those reasons. You would think I would have the same feelings for spring, but somehow it isn't quite as refreshing a change. And of course fall has football!
