
With the Austin City Limits music festival on the horizon, we’ll start seeing some of those acts wander into our city, some for the first time:
Tuesday
As time goes on, Hank III continues to meddle even more into the punk/rock/metal that he enjoys, but you’ll still his grandfather-inspired country originals, too. Bob Wayne & the Outlaw Carnies open.

Wednesday
Ben Kweller has been confused with other Bens before (Lee and Folds in particular), which is one of the reasons the three Bens toured together a few years ago. This time, it’s the Texas-born 25 year old Ben on his own.

Thursday
“Crazy” will go down as the song of summer ’06. Gnarls Barkley (a band, not a person) quickly garnered critical acclaim and radio airplay this year with that hit. What costumes will they decide to wear tonight – bathrobes? Star Wars? Napoleon Dynamite & Pedro?

Most side projects are good for a song or two, but Raconteurs are an exception. With The White Stripes’ Jack White and singer/songwriter Brendan Benson leading the band, they made a debut album that is superior than the last Stripes release.

Friday
Britain’s Massive Attack has become one of the most consistent electronic outfits over the last 15 years. They’ve been much more successful overseas, but have managed to capture some loyal fans here with their mix of trip-hop and darker experimental sounds.

This past year, Wade Bowen has enjoyed national success by co-writing Pat Green’s “Don’t Break My Heart Again.” He’s hoping to follow in Pat’s Texas country footsteps with his latest release Lost Hotel.

Saturday
With three major-label releases under their belt, Guster has made the big time without selling out. Their latest CD sold 50,000 copies its first week The acoustic-rock act from Boston shares a bill with another favorite of ours, singer/songwriter Ray Lamontagne. Both play ACL in Austin on Friday.

Scottish singer/songwriter KT Tunstall wowed attendees at this year’s SXSW. It didn’t take long before her “Black Horse & Cherry Tree” became a huge hit. Even though she’s known for putting on killer solo sets, expect her full band to join her when she arrives.
