Teen jailed for fake 911 calls

091506_phone.jpgSo 17-year-old Jonathan Davis who is under arrest for making prank calls to 911 — one of which resulted in an accident that injured four firefighters in August. Yeah, looks like someone's gonna be in big trouble.

Scott Clements, an arson investigator, said investigators let Davis listen to the recordings of nine prank calls; he said he made seven of them and a friend of his might have made the other two. The Aug. 31 call which firefighters were injured while responding to dealt with a fake fire at Davis' dad house in the 1300 block of Sampson:

911: You said a house is on fire?
Davis: Yes ma’am. And there’s a baby in there.
911: OK. Are there any signs of smoke or flames?
Davis: Ma’am?
911: Do you see any smoke or flames coming from the house?
Davis: Yes ma’am.

On the way to the house, Engine 508 rolled over, totaling the firetruck — which cost about $450,000 — and hurting the firemen on board. Clements said it seems the motive for that call was a fight between Davis and his dad; there wasn't word on why he made the other few calls (maybe he was mad at some other people, too). "I’d just tell them I’m sorry," Davis said of the injured firefighters. "I deserve to go to jail for that."

What surprised us was the amount of fake calls the fire department gets: 186 in August and more than 1,200 so far this year.
