Some of these are a short drive, but with "Fair Season" upon us, we'll tell you where you can find cotton candy, funnel cakes and turkey legs, among other festival foods. Houstonist does admit to shamelessly plugging classic cars – it’s not a festival - we like to window shop.

WHAT: Waller County Fair: Hempstead, Texas
FM 359 @ Old Hempstead Road (Hwy 290 W)
Rodeos (youth and ranch), BBQ cookoff, carnival, crafts, music, dancing, livestock auctions, “Mutton Bustin” (we wonder what that is), greased pig contest, exhibits and more. Parade kicks off Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

COST: $7 admission per day, $8/Rodeo, $10/Concert
