Catch some power-pop tonight from Seattle’s The Long Winters. From Austin, What Made Milwaukee Famous offers similar pop, and overtly catchy songs. May indie-pop live!

Raw rock and roll, even a touch of southern rock, is what you get with The Kings of Leon. Opening for the band is The Stills, whose growing following over the past few years landed them a major label record contract.

If Houston Calling’s David Cobb likes it, you know its good. He gave rave reviews for The Damnwells, and after hearing a few of their tunes, we agree. DC's Army of Me and our own Dune, TX open.

Wednesday
We guess that fellow contributor Josh was wrong – there is good music coming out of Indiana. Shindig brings their emo style to town (if their van is fixed, that is) along with Spokane’s Free Range Robots.

Thursday
With a name like the Bastard Sons of Jonny Cash, you’d expect to hear some “give you the finger” country/rock. Not really the case, here. The band displays a softer alt.country sound, with some good songwriting.
10 p.m. at the Firehouse Saloon | tickets and info
Friday
When Jet arrived on the music scene a couple of years ago with “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” we knew we had a keeper. Their sophomore CD Shine On hits stores on Oct. 3rd.
8 p.m. at Warehouse Live | tickets and info
Saturday
Kelly Willis has made the big time, we guess – you can now see her and her husband pitching Claritin on TV. She has always been the “one that got away” on country radio; her voice and songwriting are superb.
7:30 & 10 p.m. at McGonigel’s Mucky Duck | info
Pictured L to R: Damnwells; What Made Milwaukee Famous; Kings of Leon.
