Another police dog attack

092106_dog.jpgSo yesterday, we told you about the K9 cop that bit a girl at Madison High, and today, we have the unfortunate story of a 4-month-old boy who was attacked by his dad's police dog. If we learn that police dogs are conspiring to rise up and kill us all, remember: You heard about it on Houstonist first.

It happened at about 3 p.m. yesterday near Cleveland, where Marek Montgomery was sitting in a chair in the front yard of his folks' house. His mom, Belinda, said the Dutch Shepherd bit Marek and then dragged him around the yard by his diaper. She finally got the dog to turn loose by "hitting the dog with something," Cleveland Emergency Medical Service supervisor Greg Miller said. He said Marek "was hurt pretty bad," but the injuries weren't life-threatening. (Marek's dad, Kyle Montgomery, handles the dog for the Splendora Police Department.)

Liberty County Sheriff Greg Arthur told the Chronicle that the cause of the attack isn't known, but a neighbor, Carol Keen, told KHOU it seemed to her that the dog thought Marek was something to play with: "There was no growling. There was no barking. There were no antagonistic actions from this dog. I think he thought that it was a toy."

The dog will be quarantined until an investigation can be completed.
