We're just a little over two months away from Election Day 2006. (It’s on Nov. 7), which means we can expect to see a lot more of the candidates in the next few weeks. Today, independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Kinky Friedman hits town in the midst of his college tour — he's making a stop today at the University of Houston, and then tonight, you can catch him at the Flying Saucer downtown.
Nothing unusual there — but what's news is that Friedman will be joined by former professional wrestler and ex-Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, himself an independent (with, we learned from Wikipedia, an affinity for hookers. (Whatever makes the man happy … ) We can't help but wonder whether Friedman has picked up Ventura as a bodyguard, given some of the — um, indelicate remarks he's been making. Let's just say it should be interesting to see who shows up at Kinky's appearances today.
As the tour continues, Kinky will head to Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin State University, the University of St. Thomas, and the University of North Texas. And, we assume, bars in College Station, Nacogdoches, Denton ...

Missed Connections: November 2 - 5

Kinky wrote this in the July 27, 2006 edition of High Times:
"Take it easy now, Kinkster," said Robert Young. "You've had a bad accident and you're in the Cedars of Tedium Hospital. Apparently you were run over by a bookmobile as you were coming out of a men's room in Denver, Colorado. To save your life we had to give you a transfusion using the blood of a person of the Negro persuasion."
"That's moderately unpleasant," I said.
"Well, there's a good side of things, too," said Robert Young. "Your welfare checks should start coming in a few weeks, and your penis just grew twelve inches. Ha-ha-ha."
Until recently, I was a Kinky supporter, but I'm fairly uncomfortable with this comment. This wasn't 26 years ago. It was just a couple of months ago during Kinky's campaign. At a minimum, that shows poor judgment.
If this guy gets elected I'm leaving the state.
